Fire, Water Line Break Close Edina Golf Dome
Edina, Minn., Feb. 10, 2012 –The Braemar Golf Dome in Edina is closed
indefinitely after an early-morning fire caused the dome to collapse.
At about 6:10 a.m. Feb. 10, the Edina Fire Department was called to 7420
Braemar Blvd. When the crew arrived, they found the dome partially deflated,
accompanied by a water leak and the smell of gas. Edina Fire Marshal
Tom Jenson said the fire might have started in the northwest corner of the
facility, which burned a hole in the side of the dome. The fire slowly
spread to the hill behind the dome, but burned itself out before fire crews
arrived. Water and gas lines were dislodged from the clubhouse when
the dome collapsed. Both were immediately shut off and CenterPoint Energy
was called to the scene. Electricity to the dome was also turned off.
The exact cause of the fire and dome collapse is under investigation.
Braemar Golf Dome will be closed until further notice. The facility had been
scheduled to remain open for the season until April 1.
