Training Facility to hold free Women’s Fire Expo
Edina, Minn., May 7, 2010 –The Edina Fire Department has once again teamed
with a number of area fire departments and the North Star Women’s Firefighters
Association to bring the Women’s Fire Service Expo to Edina.
The expo will be held at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, 7525
Braemar Blvd., on Saturday, May 22, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This free, half-day event is meant to give woman who have considered becoming
firefighters an opportunity to network with local departments and other women
firefighters, try out equipment and go through scenarios that they would face
day-to-day as a member of a fire department such as tearing apart a car and
putting out a structure fire.
“The number of women firefighters is constantly growing,” said Edina Fire Chief
Marty Scheerer. “This expo gives women who might be interested in learning more
about firefighting a pressure-free way to see what it’s like.”
Interested participants are asked to preregister online at www.nswfa.org .
Other sponsoring departments include Bloomington, Chanhassen, Cuyuna Range, Eden
Prairie, Golden Valley, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Savage, St. Louis Park and
Victoria.
