Stuart Fjellanger
Stu’s
distinctive style is built on a foundation of academic training in fine
art and illustration.
Born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Stu first studied art at
Augustana College. His interest in art brought him to the Minneapolis
College of Art & Design (MCAD). After completing a Bachelor of Fine
Arts degree at MCAD, Stu worked briefly as an independent illustrator
known for his linocut prints. Although he received professional praise
of his linocuts, he entered the field of fine art. His oil paintings
have been exhibited in a number of galleries, a variety of public
spaces, and are part of many private collections.
After
spending ten years in fine art, Stu returned to illustration, his
first love. He enjoys working with linocut prints and digital tools,
and oil paints in his illustrations.
Stu is currently pursuing
a Master of Fine Arts in Illustration at the University of Hartford.
He lives in Minnesota with his wife and their young daughter.
Stu teaches linocut printmaking, oil painting, Introduction to
Illustration, children’s book illustration and History of Illustration
at the Edina Art Center.
