The Edina Police Department’s newest officer took to the streets in June 2010. After graduating from St. Paul’s renowned K-9 training program, Blade and his handler, Officer Jason Behr, began work. Blade, a German Shepherd born from a long bloodline of Slovakian police dogs, was imported to the United States as a puppy. Behr says Blade has already impressed him in the field and he looks forward to continuing work with his new partner.

The Edina Crime Prevention Fund continues to raise money to fund the Canine Unit. A donation to the Crime Fund will help to sustain this program in the future. An Edina resident donated funds for Kodiak. When the second K9, Diesel, was added, there were several donors who contributed to help raise funds. A great deal of help was received from the Edina Federated Women's Club, Pohlad Family Foundation, Edina Public Schools -- WISE Guys Club, Cub Scout Pack 78 and many others. This program would not be possible without the efforts of many who worked tirelessly.
