Edina Energy Fair to be held May 4 at Centennial Lakes
April 8, 2008, Edina, Minn. – Want to reduce your energy costs? Anxious
to try out one of those new twisty light bulbs? Have a hankering for organic
snacks? Learn about self-reliance and more at the Edina Energy Fair, to be
held 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Centennial Lakes Park.
The City of Edina’s Energy & Environment Commission will host the Fair at
the park, 7499 France Ave. S. The first 200 people who bring in incandescent
light bulbs can exchange them for free CFLs. Free reusable tote bags will be
given away, while supplies last. Information will be available on how to
reduce energy costs and organic refreshments will be served.
At 2 p.m., David Morris of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance will
present “Minnesota’s Changing Environment: Meeting Edina’s Energy Challenge”
in the Maetzold Amphitheater at Centennial Lakes. Morris’ presentation is
part of the Edina Community Foundation’s Edina Dialogue series.
At the fair and other events throughout the year, the Commission will
encourage residents to take the Edina Energy Challenge, part of the
Minnesota Energy Challenge. The Challenge is about individuals taking action
to reduce their energy use and then empowering their friends, neighbors and
employers to do the same. The Commission is working to sign up 2,008 Edina
households in 2008.
“Cooling off our environment takes small actions by millions of people.
Those actions will lead to the policy shifts that can turn the tide,” said
Commissioner and event organizer Paul Thompson. “Thanks to careful planning
and a deep commitment to serve, Edina is well positioned to lead the charge
in our state and country toward the renewable energy age.”
The nine-member Energy & Environment Commission was established in 2007 to
help the City stay on the forefront of issues of sustainability. For more
