PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
PLAYGROUND COORDINATOR

 

The City of Edina is accepting applications for the position of Playground Leader, who will work from mid-June to the end of July. Responsible for providing recreation programs in neighborhood parks for youths ages 4 to 12.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with planning and preparation for summer recreation programs, including the Fab 4 & 5 program curriculum.

  • Work as a team with Recreation Supervisors and Playground Leaders to implement programs for ages 4 to 12 at various Edina parks.

  • Supervise roughly 25 Playground Leaders through daily visits to parks.

  • Assist Playground Leaders on site with leadership techniques, program implementation and team building.

  • Ensure safety measures are followed and documentation completed.

  • Assist in leading staff orientation and Monday meetings.

  • Effectively communicate information with Playground Leaders, parents and Supervisors about the program and participants.

  • Problem solve by using Playgound Leaders, parents and Supervisors as resources.

  • Complete necessary forms including mid-season and end-of-season performance evaluations on Playground Leaders.

  • Follow City of Edina policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Applicants must be 21 years of age with classroom or supervisory teaching experience; excellent leadership, organization and communication skills; experience working with children in structured programs and ability work as part of a team. Preferred candidates will also have experience working with children in recreation settings; completed coursework in elementary education, child development, recreation programming or related field; and First Aid/CPR certification.
 

Starting wage is approximately $13.78- $16.63 per hour, depending on qualifications.
